yes its a mix between the gov and paranoid civilians, not to mention a little thing called a war, the gun powder, brass, and ballistic stuff is harder to come by because its being used to defend our country, basically look back to world war II when silk and other stuff was rationed, same concept, so companies are on backorder to assemble the rounds, also its a petroleum product so big oil has its dirty little hands in it
afraid of the inevitable zombie apocalypse, storing up ammo. you should too
Yes, it is because of the government. Thank Chairman Mao-bama for this; he wants all personal firearms renedered inoperable and the best way to do this is limit the amount of ammo available to civilians.
Oh I don’t know, maybe it’s because of all the shootings you guys are having. You know, in schools, in homes, kids shooting each other etc.
Maybe your government is finally seeing sense and restricting these things a bit more. About time too. Right to bear arms? What a crock!
Thank your mama bama……people have freaked out…really freaked out…. and are hoarding..
The DOD soon switched its gears because of all of us writing in to our Congress.
there are alot of reasons ammo in general is getting harder to find cheaply. brass is getting harder to come by as the DoD is no longer selling spent brass cases to companys that reload, without the brass being destroyed thus making the brass useless to these companies and they are having to buy new brass not once fired brass. start reloading on your own if you need or want more ammo. reloading is very easy and a WHOLE lot cheaper than buying factory loaded ammo and you will take alot more pride in what your shooting from your firearms. I reload my own ammo and I get more joy shooting my loaded ammo than a factory loaded round
Also andrea H ever noticed that countrys that have banned firearms use or ownership by its populous has a higer rate of crime in the following years??? It is true that an armed society is a polite society. People are less likey to rob beat or rape others if they are unsure if they are carrying a weapon to protect themselfs.
No, as of yet, Obama hasn’t passed any laws affecting guns, otherwise you would have heard about it, A-LOT.
Anyway, the actual cause of this is fear. The fear of gun owners that Obama will outlaw guns or something. It’s all fear, that’s why gun prices have gone up. If Obama is smart then he won’t outlaw guns, because that would actually hurt the economy even more.
P.S. Another reason gun prices are going up is that, in many border cities in Mexico, the Cartels are paying up to $5,000 for AK-47 or AR-15 based rifles.
Because everyone went on a frenzy when obama was elected because he voted for a total ban on handguns, and because he wanted to renew the assault rifle ban.
All of the above.
Hoarding due to fear of Obama.
Increased armament for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Increased cost of metals
Supply and price manipulation by ammunition companies of primers, powder and bullets
Unavailability of once-fired cases
s10lvr01: The DOD started reselling spent brass just days after they had closed the selling of spent brass to reload companies. That was the brain child of some Obama appointed politician who thought he was closing some terrorist loop hole.
Anyhow, as people has pointed out, the Obama factor is causing the scarcity of ammo. Another thing, you got a lot of people buying up all the ammo and marking it up for resell. Walmart is having issues with their employees either buying it all up or calling their friends every time there is a shipment.
here is a picture of Walmart labling their ammo: not for resell.

PS. The Doctor…I think you added one to many zeros to your AK/AR numbers. I live here on the border and you can buy either one around 1,000.00 each. Think about it, why would some drug cartel offer 5k for a clone semi-auto AK-47 built on a U.S. receiver when they can buy an original select fire AK47 for a few hundred dollars from South America? Don’t believe everything you hear in the news…especially coming out of the U.S.
As so many have said, it’s Obama-induced paranoia.
Disarmament is slavery.
One day the truth will come out as to how this fabricated, artificial shortage was created by Who, What, Where, When, Why and How it was pulled off.*
It is because of the Scared gun-owners and maybe some market speculators.
Since The Anointed One was selected by a mere 33% of US voters, the AMerican public has a fear that The Messiah will erase their ability to own firearms and ammunition.
Several Idiots in congress have ponied up bills to restrict the sale of ALL ammunition that does not have identifying marks on each and every component. The same Idiots already know that this technology does not exist in a fashion that would allow for mass production of munitions. So these Idiots logic is if it can’t be produced and the law says it must be enforced they will get rid of ALL munitions…
So the Chicken little’s are running around buying up everything they can find, creating an artificial shortage. I figure that if I wait long enough I can buy this same stuff at yard sales and in bargain post for next to nothing, Kind of like the bargains after the 2000 scare….
It’s been this way for a year, but is actually getting better lately.
Mostly because of panic buying by the public.
Its about over now. There have been several billion rounds sold in the last 6 months. I see ammo setting the shelf longer now.
Jut keep checking the stores–just because they are out today does not mean they will be out tomorrow. Most big stores get shipments in weekly.
It’s because Obama wants to have change so the opposite of having guns is to not have guns and ammo because they supposedly kill more people then cars and everything else in the world,
What do you mean "harder to buy"? Are you having a hard time finding the ammo or are the stores giving you a hard time?
If you can’t find it, it is because of people hoarding. It is starting to get better though. Supply is catching up with demand.
If you are talking about problems buying, it could be because you look young or the place you are buying from has @$$holes working that just don’t like you.
