Shooting glasses are always welcome. The polycarbonate lenses scratch easily and often need replacing.
Amplified hearing protectors are nice, but pricey.
If they don’t already have one, an NRA membership is certainly appropriate, as is a membership at a local range.
Cleaning kits are good, too. So are range bags (should have lockable zippers or compartments).
Something I’d like someone to give me (they’re pricey): A SafeDirection(R) pad. That’s a piece of the stuff they make body armor out of designed to give you a safe direction to point your gun when you have to handle it away from the range (link below).
There’s no end of hats and tee-shirts and jackets and such with assorted firearm logos on them. Not my cup of tea, but your friend may like one.
Cleaning kit, bore snake, targets, extra magazines, ammo (If you can find it), ex if you want spend some money night sights, or a crimson laser sight. If his gun has a Picatany rail you can a foreword grip, reflex sight, rail mounted laser etc
Your question is a little too vague. It really depends on the firearm. If it is a pistol you can get fanny packs (if it is a compact pistol) that allow it to be hidden, extra magazines, shoulder holsters, hip holsters, back holsters, leg holsters, more spare magazines (you can never have too many magazines! :)), pistol-bungee so the gun stays attached to the holster. They have cleaning kits for every firearm available!
http://www.blackhawk.com has some good "glasses/goggles, gloves" if thats what your looking for.
If we are talking about a rifle tactical slings are always fun! Magazines are wonderful!!!! Cleaning kits are amazing! DONT FORGET THE C.L.P.! If the kit does not have C.L.P. (Clean, Lube, Preserve) make sure to get some!
Well i’m assuming its a Mark II or III so extra mags, ammo and a cleaning kit. Maybe a nice range bag or pistol rug to lug the thing around
Do they have a case for it? Do they have a 4-wheeler? If they do they might like a gun rack for the front rack. Shooting sticks are nice if some one does not have one. If there are kids in the house they might like a trigger lock (yep that one is going to get me some thumbs down, I don’t use/like/or have any but some do) Target stands always come in handy, also a metal swinging target is always a nice gift. Shooting/range bags are handy.
Good luck.
Dave
I would love to have a set of these.

They have several models in the electronic category. Some are cheaper but the user reviews give the less expensive ones poor ratings.
Or just get him 2 sets of passive hearing protection muffs (no electronics). That way, he can have a pair for a friend when he goes shooting. Any place that sells sporting goods will have them (to include WawMart). For less than $15, you can get a pretty decent pair that will last for years.
