My local gun shop has a Mosin Nagant M44 for $99. Is it worth it?
Just wondering if these rifles are fun to shoot or not. Is the accuracy decent? What kind of accuracy is normal for these? Can the bayonet be removed?

They are fun to shoot if you get a slip on recoil pad.
Don’t believe the hype, the recoil really isnt that bad.
The butt-plate is brass, and curved. After about 10 shots your shoulder will look like hamburger! GET A PAD!
As for the price, thats the going rate. MAKE SURE you clean it VERY THOUROUGHLY before shooting it. ESPECIALLY if it is new and packed in cosmolene. Accuracy is best with the bayonet attached, if it has no bayonet, you might need to drift the front sight. Yes, it can be removed. Accuracy is not that bad, but not that good. You can expect dinner plate sized groups at 100 yards. Also, most of the ammo is CORROSIVE. You have to clean immediatley after shooting if using this ammo. Use Birchwood Casey bore solvent., its at wal mart. If you dont, it will ruin your barrel.
Be safe!
They are fun to shoot.
Its a decent price, sometimes you will see them
cheaper at gun shows.
Still at $99 bucks its worth buying just to shoot a bit
and put away for 1) a friend who doesnt have a gun to use
2) as an investment incase we get a Dem in office and they pass a weapons ban like they plan on 3) for another self defense gun if something really goes wrong!
I would not use one for hunting but I know people who do.
You are not going to shoot the X out at 100 yards but you will make kill shots easily at 100 yards.
M44, not laminated stock, should be $99 or less.
They are nice little carbines that shoot a full powered rifle cartridge. Accuracy is pretty good, but you will have much better results with the longer Mosin 91/30, which was actually made to be a front-line battle rifle and not a rear echelon guard and artilleyman’s carbine.
Yes, the bayo easily unscrews but that throws the whole balance of the gun off and you will likely need to radically adjust the sights to compensate.
It’s a great value….I got my first Mosin years ago as a cheap gun to shoot with and would up with a sizable collection of rare models and have sporterized and hunt with a couple.
wholesale is $70.00 so the mark up is not too bad,i hit gallon milk jugs at 800 yds ,with mine on a rest,if you use the same type or brand of ammo all the time it is easier to get dialed in,it makes a difference ,good clean consistant ammo is always the way to go,and use a rest to start out with,
have a blast
